KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- Hot off the heels of the successful Sector Focused Career Fair (SFCF) series in 2014, Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) today hosted the SFCF Big Bang as the first of its SFCF series for 2015. Held from 17 to 18 January at the TM Convention Centre, the SFCF Big Bang was officiated by Johan Mahmood Merican, CEO of TalentCorp, with a record participation of more than 50 top local and foreign companies.
Top employers such as Celcom Axiata, Texas Instruments Malaysia, KFC (Peninsular Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, SP Setia, Maybank and PETRONAS are running booths and answering questions about their businesses and how interested participants can submit their job applications.
“An important area of TalentCorp’s work is to steer talent to exciting careers in key economic sectors with strong growth potential. The Big Bang provides graduates with a variety of opportunities, options and the best tools possible to go after their dream jobs. By partnering with top companies that are experiencing tremendous growth and looking for fresh talent, we aim to empower young Malaysian talent to make informed career choices aligned to the needs of the economy,” said Johan.
In addition to ‘Walk-in-Interviews’ for those seeking job opportunities and internships, other activities lined up at the SFCF Big Bang include interview and résumé advisory sessions as well as intimate ‘Coffee Talk Sessions’ which enable students to meet, interact, and receive advice from professional bodies, employers, and relevant organisations. This year, the SFCF Big Bang will also feature the ‘CEO Walkabout’, during which the CEOs of PETRONAS ICT, KPMG, MDeC, Schlumberger, Aegis BPO Malaysia Sdn Bhd. will man their respective company booths and attend to visitors.
“PETRONAS ICT is looking to hire highly motivated people, who are self-starters and team players to work within a progressive and diverse organisation. A Sector Focused Career Fair like this gives us the opportunity to meet promising young Malaysian talent,” said Redza Goh, CEO of PETRONAS ICT Sdn Bhd.
Having reached out to 25,000 young people last year, the SFCFs are mainly held at universities around the country, bringing companies to students. This enables graduates to meet corporate leaders and senior human resource representatives of participating companies while providing a platform for the companies to scout for potential talents.
“I am excited to meet potential candidates and to see what the future of our talent looks like. We anticipate that these young people will find careers that will inspire and excite them, “said Jose Hernandez Lopez, General Manager from On Semiconductor (M) Sdn Bhd.
The SFCF Big Bang is an exciting start to TalentCorp’s calendar of six SFCFs across Malaysia featuring key sectors such as Engineering, IT, Business, Banking and Finance to increase career awareness and instil a better understanding of Malaysia’s key economic sectors.
“Now, more than ever, the nation needs a knowledgeable and skilled workforce, and we are looking for talented individuals to contribute to advancing our talent pool and nation. Sector Focused Career Fair like this gives us, companies an avenue to find and nurture talent,” said Sharon Sung, Head of Talent & Culture from SJ Grant Thornton.
