Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives when done right, can have lasting benefits for a company. Many companies today practice CSR to create a positive impact on society as a whole, while maximising the shared value creation for business owners, its employees, and stakeholders.PETRONAS’ CSR framework, Corporate Social Investment & Philanthropy (CSIP), upholds the philosophy to “Empower Communities Where We Operate” through three key focus areas of Education, Community, and Environment.
In 2016, Group ICT adopted PETRONAS' CSIP framework and guidelines to better facilitate its social programmes, and contributions focused on the key areas of Education and Community.Brilliant Young Minds
Group ICT marked a milestone by introducing its first Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme Brilliant Young Minds (BYM), which aims to create positive, long-term impact in the Education sector by promoting the adoption of digital technology. The programme had a soft launch recently on 4 November 2016 Kuala Lumpur Engineering Science Fair (KLESF).

1. The Clean-Up for Sekolah Rantau PETRONAS, Terengganu
On 30 May 2016, 140 employees from various operating units (OPUs) across Kerteh and Paka came together for a gotong-royong (clean-up) at Sekolah Rantau PETRONAS in Terengganu. This initiative was led by PETRONAS East Coast Regional Office (ECRO) and saw the participation of 10 Group ICT employees, who helped create a more conducive learning environment for 800 students. Group ICT contributed RM10,000 in October for refurbishment works.
2. Perak Young Innovate Programme 2016
On 20 September 2016, the finals of the inaugural Perak Young Innovate programme saw 49 teams from 14 secondary schools across Perak compete at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) for recognition as the top three most innovative inventions.
Group ICT sponsored participants from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sultan Yussuf, from which the second runner-up was named. The story on this was previously featured in

3. PETRONITA Orchid Fun Run & Ride
On 25 September 2016, PETRONITA organised its second Orchid Run & Ride. Group ICT supported the event by sponsoring the running bibs for the participants.
4. Preparing for the East Coast Monsoon
In 2015, the East Coast floods affected 200,000 people, with many having to evacuate their homes and seek temporary shelter. In preparation for this year's monsoon season, Group ICT set up an East Coast Flood Operation Committee (EC-FOC) to mitigate the impact of the potential natural disaster to our employees and operations.
The committee, led by Haji M Adenan A Ghani from Regional Field Support Services team, will monitor the flood situation and provide swift relief support. Group ICT sponsored RM20,000 towards a flood relief fund set up by the committee to procure items such as dry food, clean drinking water, basic medication and temporary accommodation for those who could be affected by the floods.
Overall, 2016 saw Group ICT move towards greater alignment to PETRONAS' CSIP framework in our contributions. Aligning efforts with goals, resources, skills, and areas of expertise also increases efficiency and will allow us to offer the best help to the communities in which we operate.
