PETRONAS ICT Inter-Function Sports Tournament culminated in a grand closing event aptly dubbed The Finale 2017 on 18 November 2017 at the Indoor Arena, Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Club.
The tournament, which spanned from September to November 2017, saw five teams divided based on PETRONAS ICT’s job functions — Business Function (BF) 1, BF 2, Group ICT and Enterprise Information Management (GIE) and Support Function — competing in futsal, badminton, netball, bowling and golf. Throughout this period, the teams battled head-to-head against each other to accumulate the highest points to emerge as the overall winner.
BF1, which bagged three gold medals, a silver and a bronze, was crowned champion of the Inter-Function Sports Tournament at the event, which marked the last big bash of the year for the company. Operations Division won second place followed by Support Function, GIE and BF2 in third, fourth and fifth places respectively.

Runners and “Losers”
The Finale 2017, which was a fun-filled day for the employees and their families, started with some 300 participants of the five-kilometre Fun Run performing a warm-up Zumba session. The runners, comprising of staff, their spouses and children, were then flagged off by PETRONAS ICT Chief Executive Officer Redza Goh, and Head of Strategic Communications and Chief Leadership Officer Michele Lum.

The first 10 finishers won Isetan vouchers worth RM100 each. Diana bt Mohd Redza, Malaysia’s national swimmer and daughter of Redza, emerged as the winner of the women’s category followed by Yeo Mei Yi from Account and Service Management (ASM), who came in second. Norazrin Mohd Nordin from BF Support took third place, while nine-year-old Nur Dalilah Maisarah bt Mohd Fadel, daughter of Wan Rubika Wan Jaafar, Head of Solution Delivery, BF Support, came in fourth. Siti Arpah Fatwa Ali from IPROC clinched the fifth place.
For the men’s category, the winner was Mohd Adam Mohd Kamil from Operations, while Saiful Adam Bin Saiful Mazrin, son of Khairus Anita, Head of Business Performance Management, ASM took second place. Mohd Fadli Mohd Roffi from Operations, M Zul'izzi M Yasin from Operations and Mahzan Musa, from BFS placed third, fourth and fifth respectively.
The Finale 2017 also saw the culmination of the Biggest Loser Challenge, a three-month journey of self-transformation embarked on by 30 PETRONAS ICT employees. The participants, comprised of 12 males and 18 females, were divided into pairs and underwent 12 intensive boot camp sessions lead by fitness experts from the Original Boot Camp Malaysia. Apart from that, they were also treated to workshops on nutrition education, stress management and a cook-out session at Fittie Sense Restaurant in Bangsar, to encourage a more positive and healthier lifestyle.
Winners were judged based on the highest combined percentage of weight loss. Syed Ab Kadir Apili and Mahadhir Mohamed both from Operations, whose combined percentage of weight loss was 7.80%, emerged as winners, walking away with a medal and an Apple Watch 3 each. The first runners-up, Tutefaluna Awan from Enterprise Information Management (EIM) and Menaga Erusan from Strategic Communications (7.56%), won a medal and Garmin Vivoactive 3 Sports Watch, while the second runner-up, Izatul Farah Mansor from Assurance (6.44%), bagged a medal and FitBit Alta HR watch. Izatul’s partner had to drop out at the tail end of the challenge due to health reasons.

A Fun Day for All
The rest of the day was filled with performances ranging from a magic show featuring Snow White, the Seven Dwarfs and Prince Charming that had the audience enchanted; and singing as well as hip hop dance performances by talented PETRONAS ICT staff.
PETRONAS ICT management and employees also participated in friendly games of futsal, netball and telematches to enhance their camaraderie, as well as other fun activities such as the bouncy castle, zorb balls, pony ride, and game stalls to name a few, available for the whole family to enjoy. There were also food stalls and trucks selling an array of scrumptious dishes to fill hungry tummies.
